Designed for production lines that need to lift, turn and accurately position heavy rolls without clamping their outer surfaces, this custom semi-electric roll lifter secures each load through its core with a pneumatic expanding mandrel. Electric lifting, powered 90° rotation and powered side shift reduce manual effort and make alignment with machine shafts more controlled and precise. Manual travel keeps the truck maneuverable around machinery and workstations, while the reinforced support-leg structure provides a stable handling platform. Each unit is engineered around the customer’s roll weight, diameter, core dimensions, loading height and available floor space instead of being supplied as a one-size-fits-all machine. It is ideal for paper, plastic film, label stock, foil, nonwoven, textile, printing, packaging and converting operations.

1. Is this a standard model or a custom-built roll lifter?
This is a custom-engineered roll handling solution rather than a fixed, off-the-shelf model. The final configuration is determined by the roll weight, diameter, width, core dimensions, pickup orientation, required loading height and available operating space. Customers should provide roll drawings, core specifications and photos or drawings of the receiving machine whenever possible. This information allows the mandrel, mast, rotation mechanism and chassis clearances to be properly matched to the application.2. What roll sizes and weights can the reference configuration handle?
The reference configuration is designed for a rated load of at least 300 kg, a maximum vertical roll diameter of approximately 1,500 mm and a shaft-center height of at least 1,900 mm. The illustrated pneumatic mandrel has a diameter of 116 mm and a working engagement length of 400 mm. The actual permissible capacity must still be confirmed according to the roll’s load center, weight distribution, core strength and effective engagement length. A large or unevenly wound roll may require a different mast, mandrel or chassis configuration even when its total weight is within the nominal capacity.3. Will the pneumatic expanding mandrel damage the roll?
The mandrel grips the roll from inside its core, so it does not need to clamp or squeeze the wound material on the outside. This makes it suitable for paper, film, foil, labels and other products whose outer layers must remain clean and free from compression marks. However, the core’s internal diameter, wall thickness, material, roundness and structural strength must be checked before production. The expansion range and air pressure should also be selected specifically for the customer’s core to ensure reliable gripping without overstressing it.4. Which functions are powered and which functions are manual?
The operator manually pushes and steers the truck, while roll lifting, 90° rotation and lateral side shifting are powered. This semi-electric arrangement reduces effort during the most demanding handling operations while maintaining straightforward maneuverability around machinery. The expanding mandrel is pneumatically operated and therefore requires a suitable compressed-air supply. If an onboard air source is required, this should be specified during the technical confirmation stage.5. Can the roll lifter load rolls directly onto production equipment?
Yes. The machine can be customized for loading and unloading slitters, rewinders, printing presses, packaging lines and other roll-processing equipment, provided the working height and mechanical clearances are correctly matched. Before design approval, the customer should confirm the machine-shaft height, core and shaft dimensions, approach direction, leg clearance, aisle width and floor conditions. The powered side shift assists with final alignment, but the overall truck and interface dimensions must still be engineered for the specific workstation.
