Moving heavy loads is a routine challenge in industrial facilities, but not every load can be handled by a conventional forklift, pallet truck, or towing machine. In slaughterhouses and meat processing plants, large animal carcasses are often suspended from overhead rail systems and must be moved between different working areas.

These suspended loads can be difficult to push manually, particularly when several heavy carcasses need to move along the same rail.

To address this specialized material handling requirement, SINOLIFT developed a customized ML150 electric tugger equipped with a 304 stainless steel pushing attachment.

Unlike a conventional electric tugger designed to pull wheeled carts or trailers, this customized machine is intended to assist with moving heavy suspended meat carcasses along an existing overhead rail system.

The solution combines the mobility of a compact walk-behind electric tugger with a purpose-designed attachment for meat processing applications.

1. Customer Requirement: Moving Heavy Suspended Meat Carcasses

In many meat processing facilities, animal carcasses are suspended from overhead rails after slaughter and initial processing. The rail system allows carcasses to remain off the floor while moving through different stages of production.

Depending on the facility layout, suspended carcasses may need to be transferred between slaughtering areas, chilling rooms, refrigerated storage areas, and further processing stations.

These operations can involve pork, beef, venison, and other types of meat.

Although overhead rail systems support the weight of the suspended carcasses, moving the loads along the rails may still require considerable physical effort.

The difficulty becomes more noticeable when operators need to move several heavy carcasses together, reposition loads in confined areas, or repeat the same movement throughout the working day.

Why Is Manual Pushing Difficult?

The weight of a suspended carcass is not the only factor affecting movement.

Operators must also overcome friction in the overhead rail trolleys, resistance at rail connections, and any additional forces caused by the layout of the handling system.

When several suspended loads are moved together, the force required to start and control their movement may increase.

In facilities where this work is performed frequently, manual pushing can become physically demanding.

The customer therefore required a powered handling solution capable of assisting with the movement of heavy suspended meat loads without replacing the existing overhead rail system.

The equipment also needed a specialized pushing structure suitable for the working height and arrangement of the suspended loads.

A standard towing connection was not sufficient for this application.

2. SINOLIFT’s Solution: Customized ML150 Electric Tugger

SINOLIFT selected the ML150 walk-behind electric tugger as the foundation for this customized handling solution.

The standard ML150 is a compact battery-powered towing machine designed to move wheeled equipment in industrial environments. Its pedestrian-operated configuration makes it suitable for applications where an operator needs to walk alongside or behind the equipment while controlling its movement.

For this project, SINOLIFT adapted the machine by adding a specially designed 304 stainless steel carcass pushing attachment.

The resulting configuration, identified in the engineering drawing as ML-150-011, is intended to provide powered assistance when moving suspended meat carcasses along an overhead rail system.

Rather than lifting the meat or carrying it on the vehicle, the customized tugger applies pushing force through its attachment while the overhead rail continues to support the suspended load.

This distinction is important.

The ML150 provides powered horizontal movement, while the existing rail system supports and guides the carcasses.

By combining these two functions, the solution offers an alternative to manually pushing heavy suspended loads.

From a Standard Tugger to a Specialized Pushing Machine

A conventional electric tugger usually connects to a wheeled trolley, cart, or trailer through a towing hitch.

However, suspended meat handling involves a different loading arrangement.

The carcasses are positioned above the floor, supported by hooks and overhead rail trolleys. A standard low-level towing hitch cannot directly perform the required pushing operation.

SINOLIFT therefore developed an extended pushing attachment with a configuration adapted to the customer’s application.

The attachment allows the electric tugger to apply force at a higher working position, making the machine suitable for the intended suspended-load handling task.

This project demonstrates how an existing electric tugger platform can be adapted to meet an unusual industrial handling requirement.

3. Custom 304 Stainless Steel Pushing Attachment

One of the most important features of this ML150 customization is its stainless steel pushing structure.

According to the project’s engineering drawing, the attachment is manufactured using 304 stainless steel and incorporates a tall support structure with a specially shaped upper pushing section.

The drawing identifies an overall attachment height of approximately 1,800 mm and a pushing-section width of approximately 700 mm.

These dimensions relate to this particular customized configuration and should not be considered universal specifications for all meat processing applications.

Why Use 304 Stainless Steel?

Meat processing environments present different challenges from ordinary warehouse operations.

Equipment may be exposed to moisture, refrigerated conditions, and regular cleaning procedures. In such environments, material selection is important for durability and maintenance.

304 stainless steel is widely used in food processing equipment because of its corrosion resistance and suitability for many hygienic industrial applications.

For this project, the use of stainless steel provides several practical advantages:

  • Better corrosion resistance than ordinary unprotected carbon steel.
  • A suitable material choice for many refrigerated and food processing environments.
  • A durable structure for industrial handling applications.
  • A surface material that can support appropriate cleaning and maintenance procedures.

However, stainless steel construction alone does not establish that a complete machine is certified for direct food contact or high-pressure washdown.

The final cleaning method, surface finish, and hygiene requirements should be reviewed according to the customer’s facility standards.

Attachment Geometry Matters

The pushing attachment is not simply a vertical bar added to the front of the tugger.

Its dimensions and contact arrangement must be considered in relation to the suspended carcasses and overhead rail system.

Important factors include the height of the load, the position of the hanging hooks or rail trolleys, the required pushing point, and the available floor space beneath the rail.

The attachment must also provide adequate clearance for the intended movement.

This is why a customized pushing mechanism can be more appropriate than a general-purpose towing accessory.

SINOLIFT can evaluate these details when developing equipment for other meat processing facilities.

4. How Does the Customized Electric Tugger Work?

The operating principle is straightforward.

The animal carcasses remain suspended from an existing overhead rail system. The electric tugger moves along the floor beneath or alongside the suspended loads, depending on the installation arrangement.

The operator positions the customized pushing attachment at the intended contact point.

Once the attachment is correctly aligned, the operator uses the electric controls to move the tugger forward.

The movement of the tugger generates the pushing force required to move the suspended loads along the rail.

The overhead rail supports the weight of the carcasses, while the electric tugger assists with their horizontal movement.

A Typical Handling Sequence

1

Position the machine

The operator approaches the suspended loads and aligns the stainless steel attachment with the designated pushing position.

2

Check the rail and load

Before movement, the operator checks that the overhead rail, hangers, and trolleys are suitable for the intended load and that the travel path is clear.

3

Engage the pushing attachment

The attachment is positioned against the designated pushing interface according to the approved operating procedure.

4

Move the suspended loads

The operator activates the electric drive and controls the movement of the tugger. The machine assists in advancing the suspended carcasses along the rail.

5

Stop at the required location

Once the load reaches the intended position, the operator stops the machine and disengages the pushing attachment.

This operating sequence describes the intended handling concept. The exact engagement method and operating procedure must be confirmed against the final machine and the customer’s rail installation.

Does the Machine Lift the Carcasses?

No.

The customized ML150 is not designed to lift carcasses from the floor or raise them onto an overhead rail.

Its purpose is to assist with moving already suspended loads.

The overhead rail, hooks, and trolleys remain responsible for supporting the meat.

This makes the solution different from a carcass hoist, lifting platform, or fixed overhead conveyor.

05

5. Applications Beyond Pork Processing

Although this customized ML150 was developed for moving suspended meat carcasses, the underlying handling concept is not limited to pork.

Different types of meat processing facilities use overhead rails to transport heavy carcasses or carcass sections.

With suitable engineering adjustments, a similar electric tugger and pushing attachment may be considered for other suspended-meat handling operations.

Pork Processing Plants

Pig carcasses are commonly transported on overhead rails during various stages of processing.

A powered pushing solution may help operators move suspended pork carcasses between designated work areas, particularly where manual movement is difficult.

Potential applications include transfers to chilling areas, movement within refrigerated storage rooms, and positioning for subsequent processing.

Beef Processing Facilities

Beef carcasses and carcass halves can be considerably heavier than many other suspended meat loads.

In facilities using overhead rail systems, moving these loads may require greater pushing force.

An electric tugger with a purpose-designed attachment could be considered for such applications, provided the required pushing force, rail resistance, clearance, and safe operating conditions are verified.

The suitability of this particular ML150 configuration for a given beef processing operation must be assessed rather than assumed.

Venison Processing

Venison processing facilities may also use overhead rails to transport deer carcasses.

Depending on the processing operation, suspended carcasses may be moved between receiving, chilling, inspection, and cutting areas.

A customized electric pusher may offer a practical alternative where operators currently move heavy suspended loads manually.

The attachment design would need to match the facility’s rail height and hanging arrangement.

Other Meat Processing Applications

The same engineering approach may be relevant to sheep, goat, and other livestock processing facilities.

However, not all overhead rail systems have the same dimensions, trolley designs, or load characteristics.

A custom configuration should therefore be developed around the actual handling requirement.

The important point is that the ML150 solution is designed around the movement of suspended loads, rather than one specific type of meat.

06

6. Why Choose a Mobile Electric Tugger Instead of a Fixed Conveyor?

Automated overhead conveyor systems are widely used in large slaughterhouses and industrial meat processing plants.

These systems can move carcasses through a series of production stations and may be integrated with automated sorting or processing equipment.

However, not every handling operation requires a fully automated conveyor.

Some facilities need powered assistance only at particular transfer points or in selected sections of an existing rail network.

In these situations, a mobile electric tugger with a customized pushing attachment may be worth evaluating.

Flexible Movement Between Working Areas

A mobile electric tugger is not permanently installed along the overhead rail.

Subject to the floor layout and equipment compatibility, the machine can be repositioned for different handling tasks.

This may be useful in facilities where the requirement is intermittent rather than continuous.

Retaining the Existing Rail System

A major advantage of the concept is that it works with an existing overhead rail arrangement.

The tugger does not need to carry the suspended carcasses because the rail system already performs that function.

For suitable applications, the customized equipment can therefore provide powered movement without requiring an entirely new carcass transport system.

Any modifications to the rail, trolleys, or attachment interface would still need to be assessed during engineering.

Operator-Controlled Movement

Unlike a continuously running conveyor, a walk-behind electric tugger is controlled directly by the operator.

This can be useful when loads must be repositioned individually or in groups at specific workstations.

The operator can control the machine’s movement according to the handling task and the approved operating procedure.

Potential for Lower Installation Complexity

A mobile tugger may require less fixed installation than a completely new powered overhead conveyor.

This can make it an option worth considering for facilities with existing rail infrastructure.

However, the most suitable solution depends on production volume, movement frequency, required throughput, and the layout of the processing facility.

For high-volume continuous production, a fixed automated conveyor may remain the more appropriate solution.

7. Benefits of the Customized ML150 Solution

The primary purpose of this project is to make heavy suspended-load movement easier to manage.

By adding a specialized pushing attachment to a standard electric tugger, SINOLIFT has developed a machine intended for a task that conventional towing equipment cannot perform directly.

Reduced Manual Pushing Effort

Moving heavy suspended carcasses manually can require considerable force, especially when several loads must move together.

Powered movement can reduce the amount of physical pushing required from the operator.

This may be particularly useful where the same task is repeated throughout the working day.

More Controlled Load Movement

The ML150 uses an electric drive system operated through a walk-behind control handle.

The operator can control the movement of the machine rather than relying entirely on manual force.

Actual stopping performance and load control must still be evaluated under site-specific operating conditions.

Specialized Equipment for a Specialized Task

Instead of using an improvised pushing tool or an unsuitable towing connection, the machine incorporates a purpose-designed stainless steel attachment.

The customized structure is intended to match the handling method and physical arrangement of the suspended loads.

Adaptability to Different Facilities

The ML150 platform can serve as a starting point for further equipment customization.

Depending on the application, the design may be modified to accommodate different pushing heights, rail layouts, and contact arrangements.

Such modifications require engineering review rather than simply changing attachment dimensions.

Support for Material Handling Efficiency

Where powered movement is appropriate, the machine may help operators reposition suspended carcasses with less physical effort and greater consistency.

The actual productivity improvement would depend on the customer’s operating conditions and should be measured through site trials.

8. Key Technical Information

The customized machine is based on the SINOLIFT ML150 walk-behind electric tugger.

The ML150-011 engineering drawing identifies a 1,500 kg traction-weight specification and a 304 stainless steel pushing attachment.

It also shows an extended attachment structure designed for the suspended-load application.

The machine uses battery-powered travel and pedestrian operation.

Importantly, the standard 1,500 kg traction-weight specification does not automatically mean that the machine can push 1,500 kg of suspended meat along any overhead rail.

The allowable pushing load depends on several factors, including the rolling resistance of the overhead trolleys, the rail condition, any incline, the number of suspended loads, and the force transmitted through the attachment.

These conditions must be evaluated before the equipment is used in a new installation.

For procurement purposes, SINOLIFT can review the required pushing force, expected loading arrangement, and relevant operating parameters to determine a suitable configuration.

9. What Should Meat Processing Plants Consider Before Ordering?

A customized electric tugger should be selected according to the actual working environment.

Customers considering a similar solution should provide information about their overhead rail system, suspended loads, and required operating conditions.

Rail Height and Configuration

The height of the overhead rail affects the design of the pushing attachment.

The position of the hanging trolleys and hooks also influences where the pushing force should be applied.

An attachment developed for one facility may not fit another installation without modification.

Load Weight and Quantity

The maximum weight of an individual carcass is important, but customers should also consider how many carcasses need to be moved together.

A system designed to push a single suspended load may require a different configuration from one intended to move a series of heavy loads.

Rail Resistance and Condition

The rolling resistance of overhead trolleys can vary significantly.

Wheel condition, rail joints, bends, inclines, and maintenance all affect the force required for movement.

These factors should be included in the engineering assessment.

Floor and Working Space

Because the electric tugger travels on the floor, the floor surface must provide suitable traction and adequate clearance.

Operators also need enough space to position and maneuver the machine safely.

Any floor slopes, drainage channels, obstacles, or restricted passages should be identified before the final design is approved.

Refrigerated Operating Conditions

For applications inside chilling rooms or cold storage facilities, the operating temperature and moisture conditions must be considered.

Battery performance, electrical protection, wheel traction, and cleaning procedures may all be affected by the environment.

A refrigerated application should not automatically be interpreted as approval for freezer temperatures or direct water washdown.

Safety and Operator Training

Moving suspended carcasses involves significant loads and potential movement hazards.

The overhead rail must be appropriately rated, and the pushing attachment must be designed for the forces it will experience.

Operators should follow an approved operating procedure and keep personnel clear of suspended loads and pinch points.

The final equipment configuration should be assessed before routine use.

10. A Practical Example of Customized Industrial Equipment

This ML150 project illustrates a common challenge in material handling: standard equipment may provide the necessary driving power, but it does not always have the right interface for the load.

In this case, the customer needed assistance moving heavy meat carcasses suspended from overhead rails.

A conventional electric tugger could not meet the requirement through a standard trailer hitch alone.

SINOLIFT’s response was to adapt the machine with a specially designed 304 stainless steel pushing attachment.

The customized configuration brings together three essential elements: a compact electric tugger, a pushing structure suited to the intended working height, and an operating concept that makes use of the customer’s existing overhead rail system.

The result is a purpose-designed handling solution for suspended meat movement.

This case also shows why equipment customization should begin with an understanding of the load and the work process.

The application is not defined simply by the total weight of the material. The way the load is supported, how it moves, where force is applied, and how the operator controls the equipment are equally important.

By considering these factors, an industrial vehicle can be adapted for applications outside its conventional role.
